After a week of wet sanding with 1000 and 2000 grit sandpaper, Chris has now begun cutting the paint with a coarse grit compound.  Any paint can be saved!

I unbolted the front floor pan today in preparation for repairing the rotted out floor boards.  Gary, and I also traced out where to the cuts are going to be and the patches we'll need to make.

Here's the front floor cover piece (with shark bite).

And the new plates came in the mail today!

Today we finished the wet sanding and began cutting the paint.  It's really chewing up the pads and it will probably take a dozen or so to do the whole car!

We also removed the front seat so it could be reupholstered and also to see how bad the floor rust/rot was and what we are looking at in terms of a patch.  Our friend Gary, is supposed to stop by tomorrow to asses the required welding repairs.
Nothing too cool found under the seat, only $0.35 dating to 1973 (oldest) and an insurance card from 1997.  I did find a broken seat spring so that will need a replacement to allow the seat to be adjustable once again.
Just a little Fred Flintstone, nothing unexpected given the car's age.

I went and registered the Dodge today.  A whole $31.00 US American Dollars!  I was lucky enough to score and brand this thing as 'Evil' too!  Looks to me like Evil expires on Halloween.

5/04/12:  Great news!  We put a charge on the car and added some gas to the carb and she turned over and fired up for a bit and died down.  Starting is always a good thing!  It obviously has a continual fuel supply issue so the tank is likely gelled or the lines blocked, but I am very pleased that we don't have any major ignition issues!

PROJECT 1948 Dodge, D-24 Sedan

Welcome to my blog about my project 1948 Dodge D-24 sedan!  I will be using this blog to house the updates, issues, concerns, areas of correction, the hunt, and other factors that I come across as I begin my relationship with this car.  I hope you enjoy it and find it informative and fun!

Let's begin:  This car was acquired from the original owner on April 29th, 2012, from Windham, NH.  The car was purchased new in PA in 1948 by the current owner's father.  It had been sitting for 9 years when I came across it.  What I liked about this car was the fact that it was complete and relatively solid.  A lot of other projects that I have been looking at were missing small stuff which is impossible to find or adds up quickly in cost!

The car was delivered to my garage on May 2nd, 2012, at 7:41pm.  The following photos are of the car exactly as I originally saw it and as it was delivered to me.  I hadn't touched the car prior to these photos:

The next series of photos to follow will be of the exterior cleaned.  I began cleaning this on May 2nd.  I'm absolutely amazed at how well it is cleaning up!  Tons of elbow grease!!!
